2009 Oscar Nominees - fashion foolish or fashion fabulous?

It is awards time in twinkle town! The stars are wishing and keeping manicured fingers crossed as nominees are announced for the 2009 Oscars. Amongst these are the talented ladies below. Though we love talent, we love red carpet fashion even more. The red carpet is all about style. Some of these stars just need a wake up call and we hoping the Oscars this year will offer enough breathtaking gasps as they saunter down the red carpet to make up for past flops.

Kate Winslet

NOMINATION Best Actress for The Reader

Fashion foolish: Kate ain’t skinny (good thing) but the embroidery directs the eye to all the wrong places.
Fashion fabulous: A strapless black Yves Saint Laurent gown for this year’s Globes.
STYLE SCORE: 7/12

Anne Hathaway

NOMINATION Best Actress for Rachel Getting Married

Fashion foolish: She could not try to look worse, is she trying to hide under all those frills? Burn.
Fashion fabulous: Anne is a classic beauty and looks best is classic elegant dresses like this sweeping Armani Prive gown in deep navy.
STYLE SCORE: 6/12

Angelina Jolie

NOMINATION Best Actress for Changeling

Fashion foolish: Angie sometimes takes her ‘goddess’ like status too far. Nobody looks good in a curtain, oops, a Juliana Cairone’s “Rare Vintage” collection dress. Then again, with a fashion accessory like Brad Pitt who really cares.
Fashion fabulous: For the Golden Globes recently she pulled out, yes you guessed it, another ‘goddess’ like, dress by designer Atelier Versace which was more flattering.
STYLE SCORE: 6/12

Meryl Streep

NOMINATION Best Actress for Doubt

Fashion foolish: So sad, everything is wrong with this. Meryl we know you are the best actress alive, please get a stylist! Fashion fabulous: In this elegant, age-perfect number Meryl lets her personality shine through and creates a much slimmer silhouette.
STYLE SCORE: 6/12

Penelope Cruz

NOMINATION Best Supporting Actress for Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Fashion foolish: Penelope is going into rewind. This years Golden Globes had her in nude colours, again, but the dress was really boring and uninspiring.
Fashion fabulous: 2007 Academy Awards she wore a nude shredded tulle confection from Atelier Versace which was so dramatically gorgeous, I am sure Tom Cruise was having regrets.
STYLE SCORE: 9/12
