Former Democratic Presidential and Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards is expected to admit that he is the father of the 18-month-old daughter of former mistress Rielle Hunter, according to a new report.
Edwards has copped to the affair but has denied that he fathered the child, whose name is Frances.
Last week, Hunter testified at the federal courthouse where a grand jury is investigating whether campaign funds were illegally used to buy her silence. Edwards could admit he's the baby's father before the investigation concludes, according to North Carolina CBS affiliate
WRAL.
North Carolina CBS affiliate WRAL also reports that longtime Edwards aide Andrew Young (who initially claimed paternity) is now writing a book in which he will say Edwards is the girl's actual father.
In May, John Edwards' wife Elizabeth told Oprah Winfrey she has "no idea" if her husband is the baby's father. Asked about the speculation, Elizabeth said, "I've seen a picture of the baby. I have no idea. It doesn't look like my children, but I don't have any idea."
